Community sports facilities for the future – the Danish case

Denmark has a dense coverage of local sports facilities owned or supported by local authorities. However the sector is facing huge challenges which were once again underlined by the Covid-19 pandemic. There is an increasing need for public or not-for-profit sports facilities to take a much more proactive approach to serving their local institutions, sports clubs and citizens if they want to stay relevant for their local communities in the future. In Denmark many sports facilities have to change due to demographic changes, changes in sports participation patterns, new demands for promoting health and wellbeing through sport as well as the growth of outdoor sports and commercial sports.

Get an insight into the structural challenges facing Danish community sports facilities and learn about some of the most inspiring cases of Danish sports facilities like Vejen Idrætscenter and Hafnia Hallen who have been able to meet the challenges and emerge into cutting edge hubs for their local communities.
